Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island was looking for an easy-to-use donor database that could provide the tools they need to maintain and get the most out of their data. “We needed to utilize data better to inform our work. We also had a ‘dirty’ database for which much cleanup was needed,” said Jessica Null, Director of Philanthropy and Communications at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island.

Solution

Jessica and her team looked at different solutions and ultimately found what they needed with Bloomerang. Jessica was impressed with how easy to use Bloomerang is, the quality of the trainings offered, and the responsiveness of the customer support team.

When it comes to data maintenance, she and her team quickly discovered that Bloomerang’s Database Health Check was exactly what they needed to clean up their “dirty” data. Results

Since implementing Bloomerang, the team at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island has saved time and seen improvements in the quality of their data and tracking efforts. Jessica shared that initially they weren’t using Bloomerang to its full potential. However, after the Database Health Check they understood the steps they needed to take to clean up their data and the impact it would have on their ability to improve their fundraising efforts.

With a clean dataset, Jessica and her team are focusing on building donor relationships not sorting through “dirty” data. They are tracking donor interactions and engagement more consistently and taking advantage of all that the Bloomerang CRM has to offer.  Jessica said about their use of their Bloomerang database, “We use Bloomerang for all CRM functions, donation tracking, grant tracking, interaction tracking, etc. We hope to use it to drive a new major gift program.”

Since using Bloomerang, the team at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island has seen improvements in data quality, the effectiveness of their fundraising, and most importantly, their donor retention rate. Jessica recommends it to other organizations who are considering making a switch. “Do it! It is so user-friendly and intuitive. I have used a lot of systems, and this is by far the best.”

Challenge

Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County’s previous donor database was outdated and had very limited functions. They were utilizing multiple systems to cover all their fundraising functions, which was a time-consuming headache.

Solution

Since implementing Bloomerang in 2013, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County has been able to consolidate their donor management, email and direct mail distribution, grant tracking and special events into one system. They also manage online giving and email sign-ups through Bloomerang.

Joseph Licata, MPA. Director of Development & Special Projects, especially loves the custom fields. “The fact that you can create almost any form of tracking and transactions is essential. Most essential is the special events and grants.”

Results

Now, their development office is more efficient and better informed.

“The system does everything. It has increased our ability to track donors, increase accuracy, and keep in touch. Productivity is the key improvement. It allows us to more efficiently manage tasks. Boys & Girls Club Boone County | Services Pivot & Multi-Touch Fundraising Email Campaign

In this video, Steven from Bloomerang sits down (virtually) with Katie from Boys & Girls Club of Boone County to talk about how their programs have pivoted in light of the coronavirus outbreak, and how the community has responded.

Campaign At-A-Glance

B&GC Boone County (IN), having been forced to close due to social distancing mandates, quickly identified a gap in food assistance for K-12 students and zeroed in on providing dinners (due to most school districts still providing lunches). They have also recently added in virtual programming; all of which require funding.

We are doing a large push because we are offering an emergency food program that is not funded through the Department of Education food program that we typically do. We have had support from our community foundation and two major donors. In addition to that, we have had many first-time donors support this initiative!

Over the course of several emails, the club solicited volunteers, communicated menu options, acknowledged corporate sponsors (especially food providers) and solicited in-kind, as well as monetary, donations.
